Midyear Home Maintenance Checklist

Do these things before June ends!

The end of the first half of the year means you need to do a home checkup to see if there are needed repairs and if you need to replace some of your furniture. Doing this allows you to keep the house in tip-top shape and gives you an opportunity to remove clutter and keep your space neat and organized.

Check your calendar and schedule your midyear checkup this week. Let this list of must-dos guide you.

Spot and fix leaks

To find leaks, check for water stains under the sink or near faucets. You may also pour dye into the toilet bowl tank to see if the dye leaks into the bowl (without flushing).

RL Tip: Is there an unexplained increase when you check your water bill? A leaky pipe may be the cause of this problem. Locate and fix it immediately. Do you have a leaky faucet? Click here for tips on how to fix it.

Clear clogged drains

You may pump a clogged drain with a plunger. If you have a clogged pipe, you may clear out the dirt using a homemade cleaning solution of baking soda and water.

Inspect for termites and other pests

Check if there are small holes in the wooden pieces or mud tunnels outside or inside the house. If you are seeing a lot of ants in your home, you may do these tips. You can also repel pests at home with the help of a couple of natural solutions.

Work on minor carpentry repairs

You can replace loose knobs and hinges at home. You may even experiment by trying to paint some of your furniture pieces. While you can always try to DIY everything, it's always best to consult with a professional and with your trusted carpenter.
