6 Things We Can Learn from Studio Units

Striking details and captivating colors can work even in small spaces

Just like airy and spacious homes, tiny spaces and compact units also feature a lot of decorating ideas and smart tricks when it comes to furnishing a place. Whether it's an unconventional color palette or a delightful mix of decor, you'll surely find something worth noting and applying in your own home sweet home. To get you started, here are some of the things we learned and loved in some of our featured condo units:

1. Striking colors can add character to your space.

In this 22sqm unit, design consultants Chico Velas and Melwyn Arrubio of Boxform Interior Design chose an orange cushions for the dining chairs to match the wooden wall treatment used in the entire unit. When decorating, feel free to inject small doses of color through decor and accessories.

2. Carving out a major storage area can help you solve your organizing woes.

Just like how many homes have command centers filled with bins, baskets, and message boards, you can also have a huge cabinet with multiple compartments to serve as storage for different things. One can serve as shoe cabinet, the other can be turned into a pantry, and another can be used to keep bags and clothes.

3. Shelves can help you deal with space problems.

One would think that it's difficult to work around a 21sqm space but in this contemporary unit, designer Roland Lustado was able to make it stylish and functional with open and corner shelves. These shelves are used to display decor, photographs, and framed prints.

4. Dual-function solutions are the way to go.

You know that mirrors can visually expand a space and that storage is of utmost importance in any home. Combine these two by opting for a cabinet with mirror doors. Doing so allows you to conceal cabinets filled with home essentials while keeping your space from looking cramped.

5. A dainty yet captivating headboard or accent wall can liven up a small room.

In this compact home dominated by light colors and neutrals, interior designer Jean Suzanne Sy was able to add a country-inspired and sweet touch through the floral accent wall behind the bed. It draws the eye upwards, keeping attention away from the limited floor area.

6. Bold details can complete the aesthetic you want.

More often than not, many of us are unsure about adding huge wall prints and too many details in fear of having an overdecorated home. Make this work for you by placing it in one specific area as accent. In this 25sqm unit, the owners opted to add a big wall decal in the dining area. Since the rest of the pieces are in white or wooden finish, a streamlined look has been achieved. It also ties the entire area together.
