5 Ways To Revive Worn-out Furniture

Don't throw out your favorite piece just yet!

Whether we admit it or not, we all have a few pieces around the home that have seen better days. If we had our way, a single trip to the nearest retail store is all we need to replace everything—in reality, however, shopping for new furniture can take a toll on your budget. To help you out, we've listed down five ways that can inspire you to extend the life of your favorite items:

Seal small cuts on your leather couch.

No matter how much you take care of it, your couch is bound to experience some wear and tear after some time—it may start to lose its shape or get a few cuts in some spots. Consider repairing these holes by steaming your favorite seat clean and patching it up using two things: tinted liquid repair and a flat iron.

Give wooden pieces a vintage-inspired finish.

After years of use, your dining set may start to look a little lackluster. The great thing about solid wood furniture, however, is that it can always be repaired and refinished. Start by assessing the extent of the damage—if you're only looking to hide a couple of water rings and scratches, try aging your table with steel wool and vinegar to give it a new look.

Repurpose an old dresser.

When decluttering our space, one thing that we always seem to find are old storage units like dressers. If you happen to find more than one unused chest, you can replace all of the drawers with pieces in varying colors and sizes to build a new piece, but with a more shabby chic feel. You can also paint the parts in the same color to give it a unifying element.

Paint over your lounge chair.

We are all guilty of owning seating furniture that is begging to be replaced. However, we tend to put off its maintenance because reupholstery can be very expensive. Have you ever thought about transforming it with fabric paint? It's a great way to conceal stubborn stains and upgrade outdated designs!

Upcycle it to become a new piece.

Even if an item seems to be beyond repair, don't chuck it in the bin just yet. You can always take a piece apart and build a new piece out of it—for example, an old drawer can be repurposed into a nightstand with storage by adding steel legs and giving it a fresh coat of color.
