5 Tips To Have An Efficient Laundry Area
Doing laundry will no longer be stressful with these tips from a designer
Admit it, some utilitarian areas of the home seldom get the design treatment. Case in point is the laundry area. It becomes a neglected space that only serves its purpose and nothing else. However, this part of the home can be functional without sacrificing style and efficiency in layout. Here are some tips from interior designer Erika Uichanco:
1. Have good lighting.
“Laundry design doesn’t have to be extravagant,” says Erika. “But I think the most important design details to have in the area are good lighting and a lot of counter space. It’s important to keep this area pleasant-looking as doing laundry and other chores take a lot of time.” With a well-lit space, you won’t have difficulty moving around, so you’ll finish tasks quickly.
2. Create an efficient layout.
“Sometimes, equipment placed in the wrong area causes clutter. Take time in preparing the equipment layout, like that of washers and dryers. Make the layout efficient by identifying which steps you do first, and make it into a functional layout that really works for you best.”
3. Make sure there are no leaks coming from your washing machine and dryer.
“Leaks from machines are just few of the common hazards in the laundry area. Make sure to always check if your machines and equipment are working properly. Also, clean your equipment regularly."
4. Make sure outlets are not exposed to water.
“Check outlets and plugs to make sure that they are left dry to avoid electrical problems. A good layout and positioning of outlets may help in addressing these problems.”
5. Assign hampers for your dirty clothes and make sure there are enough storage for your laundry paraphernalia.
“For the storage areas, wire baskets and ledges keep the items neatly stored and organized.”
