4 Questions To Ask Your Interior Designer

You've already decided to hire an interior designer to help you realize your dream home. But before you move forward, don't forget to ask these important questions on your first meeting, as advised by interior designer Vera Villarosa Orila.Â
1. What would be your payment schedule, and what is the basis for the payments (progress billing, upon completion) by percentages?Â
"It's important to be on the same page with your designer when it comes to payment terms so you'll be more prepared financially. Do you pay as the renovation progresses? Should you pay the lump sum as soon as your home is finished? Or is paying in percentage more convenient for you? Different designers prefer different terms, so don't be shy to settle this important matter from the get go."Â
2. What is your time frame?Â
"Is there extra charge in case the contractor doesn't deliver on time? Agree on a timetable so that you'll know what to expect. Of course, there will be delays, so be ready to make allowances. Clarify with your designer what the cost implications will be in case there are changes with the agreed schedule."Â
3. Have you done projects similar to my preferred style and budget?Â
"Pick someone who has done a good number of projects that suit your taste. Don't be shy to aks for pegs or do your own research by checking the designer's website for his or her portfolio. Doing so will also clue you in on whether he or she can work around your budget."Â
4. Do I get final approval of all the future materials and furniture in the design?Â
"You have the last say But keep in mind that hiring a designer means trusting him or her as well. Know what your limits are. Establishing a harmonious relationship with your designer ensures a successful collaboration."
