Minimalist and monochromatic spaces are two trends that aren’t going away anytime soon. Both are equally modern yet classy—but when put together, the combination creates a new kind of beautiful. Not only that, choosing sleek pieces in shades of black and white can help you maximize a small space while disciplining you to limit what to bring into your home. If you’re looking into giving your humble abode a dramatic yet muted upgrade, here are some ideas:

This bathroom didn’t go far from the minimalist route—its sleek lines and white walls are complemented with speckles of black through the accessories. The light gray tiling also added depth to an otherwise plain space.

Keep your decor pieces and knickknacks monochromatic, too! If you're set on adding a pop of color, stick to cooler tones like green through potted plants or hints of gold to make black items stand out.

Depending on the style you’re going for, neutrals can be considered monochromatic as well. Add a cozier feel to your living area without destroying your color palette by adding a large rug in a subdued hue.

Wooden elements paired with large, white furniture make for a statement like no other. If you’re going for this look, avoid anything black or gray to keep the room clean and crisp.

For multipurpose rooms like this kitchen and living area combo, you can divide the space with an accent wall or a large statement piece in black. Keep accessories to a minimum to avoid drawing the eye into different focal points.
