A staircase is a basic part of every home, big or small, but that doesn't mean that you have to neglect it when decorating your space. If you want a staircase that doubles as an accent element in your living area, consider painting a mural on it—draw parts of the picture in every step, so when you look at it from afar, it forms one masterpiece. Try working with dark floral patterns for a subtle yet bold statement.  

If your home has the space for it, consider a two-sided staircase for an elegant entrance. It will create a faux-arc over your main living space and allow you to style a makeshift foyer in between for a welcome that guests will never forget.  

Got a lot of books? Utilize your collection as a frame for your minimalist-inspired steps. You can also choose to go with steel bars instead of a bulky railing for an open-air feel in your home. As a bonus, your stairs can double as a stepladder for hard-to-reach titles!

For those who prefer something more secure but still want to achieve the same free-flowing feel, you can go with a glass banister instead. Make sure to use high-quality building materials to ensure the safety of everyone at home. 

Take inspiration from your neighborhood park by styling steps out of concrete and steel mesh. Don't forget to bring in a few indoor plants and wooden furniture, too—these things help complete the rustic-industrial vibe of your space.
