5 Gray Foyer Ideas You Can Work On

These welcoming corners are far from being gloomy!

They say first impressions last and what better way to leave your guests in awe than with a pretty front door and an enchanting foyer? If you're looking for ideas aside from a tropical- or rustic-inspired entryway, you may want to take a chance on different shades of gray. Some may think that it's a bit plain or somber—but with the right accessories and furniture, it can transform an empty space into an elegant and classic nook. Let the photos and tips below inspire you:

1. Do it in stripes.

If your foyer occupies a tiny area that's only a few steps from the door, make it look bigger by painting an accent wall with stripes. Alternate white and charcoal gray to keep it streamlined.

Since the space is too compact to accommodate seating pieces, opt for a round table in the middle instead to mimic a hotel lobby setup. Choose a table with black finish and spruce it up with a vase of fresh flowers.

2. Inject rustic hints and pieces.

You don't always have to use gray for your walls or as your base color. If you have cream walls in the foyer, liven it up with a distressed table or console cabinet with touches of gray. Have it upcycled and choose copper or black knobs and pulls.

Make a statement by going large in terms of decor! A huge antique mirror can spruce up the walls. Pair it with a white ceramic vase you can use to showcase your favorite indoor plant.

3. Go full-on neutral.

The easiest way to complete a gray-themed foyer? Adding neutral pieces and accessories! Take inspiration from this cozy and compact entryway—the owners opted for a neutral sofa with woode legs, fresh blooms as decor, and a rustic-inspired lighting fixture to add warmth.

For similar pieces, drop by Crate and Barrel, Our Home, and MAV Furniture.

4. Make it functional with a customized mudroom.

More often than not, the foyer serves as a spot where we keep shoes, umbrellas, bags, and other knickknacks. Do your research and see if a furniture maker or an actual store can build a customized storage cabinet with seating that you can use to turn the foyer into a mudroom—you can use the photo above as peg. Have it painted in dark gray for a sleek finish then complete it with soft brown cushions.

Use the shelves above as storage for extra bins then add hooks for scarves and bags. The space below the cushions can be turned into additional storage as well.

5. Turn it into a beach-inspired nook.

Fond of the beach? Believe it or not, you can use gray to create a beach-inspired foyer. Start by painting the wall in a light gray hue that's almost like powder blue. Spruce it up further by displaying framed decor featuring shells, white sand, and starfish.

Add a bench with gray upholstery and wooden legs then liven it up with light-colored pillows. Don't forget to make use of the space under the bench by adding woven bins and baskets for shoes and other essentials.
