5 Designer Tips for a Modern Style Home

Turn your home into your dream minimalist space with these must-dos

There's something about minimalist and modern spaces that make them perfect design pegs. Who wouldn't love a clean and streamlined look?

If you are ready to transform your space into a modern haven that you have always wanted, take note of these inputs from noted industrial designer Karim Rashid:

Utilize daylight

If you’re moving to a new place, look for lots of light. Daylight is essential to positive thinking and your well-being! Opt for a space with large windows to let the sunlight in.

Pick your favorite hues

Use color to express yourself. Don’t be afraid of a bright orange chair or a lime-green wall—if it speaks of your personality. Remember: color is about self-expression. Feel free to showcase your style at home through color.

Use easy-to-maintain materials

Use materials that age well and are easy to clean. Plastic floors (laminates, vinyl sheeting,or artificial rubber) are lightweight and inexpensive materials that wear well and are more resistant to scratches and straining.

Make do with less

Avoid impulse buying and invest in pieces that you really want and will use. “I’m not anti-consumption per se, but I think it’s essential to consume with awareness. Buy only what you need,” shares Karim.

Seek balance

Each time you buy something for your home, get rid of something else. People tend to accumulate far more than they need. Buy a vase; get rid of a vase.
