5 Dainty Color Schemes To Try

Find out how you can work around your favorite light hues and pastels

Pastels and bright colors aren’t only for children’s rooms. They can very well be used as colors for rooms used and occupied by grown-ups. All you have to do is play around with these colors and experiment with hues you can complement them with. Here are some suggestions:

1. Aqua and white

Even if aqua is only used as an accent in this dining area, it gives the space impact. The room might have looked pale if only the neutrals were present. With aqua as accent, the dining area looks lively.

2. Pale yellow and brown

Yellow instantly adds sunshine to any room. If you want a more toned down look, choose a paler version, like this light banana shade in this dining room. Keep the area from looking drab by adding furniture pieces in darker colors like wooden pieces with walnut or mahogany stains. You can also add a dainty wallpaper as accent.

3. Pink with other pinks

Pinks aren’t only for a little girl’s bedroom. Sophie’s Mom in San Antonio Village, Makati City features sweet but saccharine wall—thanks to the white wall trimmings that help tone it down. The space is made more cheerful by patterned red and magenta sofas, with a steel-and-glass center table that tones down the feminine look. Sophie’s Mom owner Tonette Rosal says that she got her inspiration from Norwegian craft brand Tilda in decorating the cupcake and pastry shop.

4. Melon and yellow

This may look like a fruity combination, but a melon-and-yellow color scheme is feminine without being overpowering. Maintain the dainty feel by complementing it with white furniture and accessories or wooden pieces in light finishes like beech or almond.

5. Pale pinks and whites

If you only want a tiny dose of pink, use blush—a light pink tint with a gray undertone. It’s almost a neutral and it makes a space relaxing. Complement it with white or light gray accessories, and stay away from bold shades like hot pink and magenta.
