5 Creative Ways To Define A Space

Check out how you can effectively distinguish spaces with or without a partition

There are several ways on how you can distinguish one area from another in your home. You can use a divider, or you can anchor an area by using an area rug or wall accents. Here are some suggestions on how you can do it in style:

1. Choose a partition that doesn’t look like one.

Instead of simply enclosing the bedroom with a wall, interior designer Van Acuña Solaña used a partition that resembles a French door to separate the bedroom from the living spaces. This suits the Paris-themed condo unit.

2. Use balustrades.

Balustrades aren’t only for balconies or stair railings. In nail salon Nailandia, a balustrade separates the foyer from the main areas of the salon. It also serves as a charming addition to the space.

3. Divide areas using a shelf.

This is a tried-and-tested trick, and it never fails! You hit two birds with one stone: you separate an area and you add storage space as well, just like what entrepreneur Beam Mariano did in her condo unit.

4. Create a faux window.

Not only will it help create the illusion of a brighter and bigger space, but it can also anchor an area just as well as an accent wall. In this dining area, interior designer Van Acuña Solaña created a focal point by way of a mirror that looks like a French window, and this helped define the area.

5. Arrange seating pieces parallel to each other.

If you have a big space, like that in a single-detached house, let your furniture pieces act as your partitions. With furniture pieces facing each other, this living area in the middle of a spacious ground floor looks put together and defined. The accent wall and console serves as an enclosure on one side and keeps the area from looking like it’s floating in the middle of a big space.
