5 Colorful Living Areas To Inspire You

Get ready to experiment with different hues!

Guests and friends are usually received in the living area, that’s why a lot of people want it to sport a look that appeals to almost everyone. But this isn’t a rule that is etched in stone. You are free to use whatever color you like in your living room—the tastes of your guests notwithstanding. Here are a few ideas:

1. Pair different pastel tints.

This living room exudes a light, feminine vibe thanks to its pale blue walls and yellow, tufted couch. Add a few light neutrals to maintain the airy feel of the space.

2. Mix juicy hues with white.

Greens and oranges give life to this living room, as if it’s always summer. When you have strong colors like these, it’s best to ground them with white furniture—like the sofa—to keep those hues from overpowering the space while still preserving its cheerful vibe.

3. Use primary colors in a space.

These colors don’t need much thinking because they already look good together. Just add a few neutral accessories to keep the space from looking juvenile.

4. Combine different patterns.

This living room may not have vibrant colors like red and orange, but the abundance of patterns more than makes up for it. Interior designer Van Acuna Solana paired the patterned wallpaper with an equally strong patterned accent chair, thus creating a cohesive look.

5. Mix strong colors and strong patterns.

This model unit at Acqua Livingstone, Acqua Private Residences by Century Properties sports the signature Missoni look that is characterized by exuberant hues and patterns. You can be just as fearless in sprucing up your own living rooms. Turn to the color wheel for guidance, and check this out to know more about color combinations.
