5 Bed and Bath Ideas to Steal from a Two-Storey House

Make the most of your private spaces with tips and tricks inspired by this family home

Interior Designer: Anla Li Tan

Let's face it: not all of us have the time, money, or energy to renovate our entire home on our own. However, while we may not be able to work on our living, dining, and other areas immediately, we can already start with our bed and bath.

Improving the bed and bath first is a good idea because we spend so much time in these private spaces. Apart from that, since these are usually smaller than the shared areas in the home, they can be easier and less expensive to work on.

If you would like to spruce up your own bed and bath areas, here are 5 ideas inspired by a Quezon City home designed by Anla Li-Tan:

Choose soothing neutral colors

You can start by picking out neutral-hued paint, furniture, and other essentials. Cream, beige, taupe, and brown can make you feel calm and relaxed. They can also make an ordinary bedroom seem that much more luxurious.

RL Tip: If you think that relaxing shades can make your space seem too plain and boring, you can spice things up with bright throw pillows and decorative pieces.

Replace the bathroom tiles

Although the owner of this home could afford to invest in a well-appointed en suite bathroom with a private sauna, not everyone can do the same thing. If you want to improve your own space on a smaller budget, you may want to replace your bathroom tiles!

Say goodbye to your old, stained, and cracked bathroom tiles that you have owned for decades and hello to brand new gray tiles.

Paint an antique chair

The piece that caught our attention in the eldest child's bedroom is the bright accent chair. You can also update the look of an old piece with a few coats of neon yellow, vibrant green, or even hot pink paint.

Reupholster the headboard

If you own a classic fully-upholstered headboard that is dingy, ratty, and full of holes, it may be time to have it reupholstered. Just like the daughter of the homeowners, you can pick a nice blue green-hued fabric.

RL Tip: To highlight the beauty of your reupholstered headboard, you may also want to invest in new pillows and bed linen.

Opt for an ornate wall mirror

Instead of a plain bathroom mirror or a medicine cabinet, you might want to use a wall mirror with an ornate frame. A traditional mirror can make your bathroom look more elegant and sophisticated.
