4 Home Projects That Should Be Done By a Pro

Going DIY all the way may cost less but you also need to ensure less errors

Choosing to do DIY projects for the home has its advantages and disadvantages. While we can save on costs and make our space as personal as possible, we also need to ensure that the home is safe and built the way we want it.

It pays to know which projects are best left to the pros. Interior designer Wilmer Lopez shares these tips.

Let this list guide you:

Repainting a room or the entire house

If you live in a condo unit or an apartment, going DIY is an option. However, if it involves large areas, its best to leave it to the pros. “Hire a professional if you are painting large-scale areas because it is more time consuming, especially for outdoors and waterproofing,” Wilmer says.

Repainting or refinishing a furniture piece

“Simple cracks or scratches can be DIY, [as well as] changing the color of a chair. But for special finishes, a pro is a must,” Wilmer suggests. Refinishing furniture should be correctly done through a professional’s eye because they have much more experience in working with the type of material or texture you that you have.

Changing a ceiling

A good carpenter can fix your ceiling if there are minor problems. However, if you need to replace your popcorn ceiling or carpentry framing, it’s best to hire a contractor or a foreman. Hiring a pro will ensure your home’s safety because they know which process or material works best for your home type.

Wallpapering can be DIY for simple patterns that one can easily match with the next few rolls. However, for complex patterns and wide walls, hiring a professional is advisable. Learn more tips about wallpaper here.
