8 Things to Love About Architect Gelo Manosa's House in Alabang

Find out what we remember the most about this modern Filipino home

Architect Gelo Manosa uses traditional bahay kubo elements in modern Filipino homes. For his own house, he also drew inspiration from the layout, structure, and design of old-fashioned nipa huts.

Here are the 8 things that we love about his family's residence in Alabang:

The Filipino design influence can be seen even from the outside of the family home. Just like the traditional bahay kubo, the house has triangular roof awnings that help provide shade and protection

Living Room

In the past, trees around the home and sunshades on the roof  would protect a bahay kubo from the scorching heat of the sun. Gelo also used trees and sunshades for a cool and breezy living area

It is furnished with a pair of gray sofas and a wooden coffee table resting on a printed floor rug.

The living room is decorated with a metal art piece entitled "Google Earth" by sculptor Michael Cacnio. The sculptural piece was especially created for this living room.

Dining Room

The dining area walls are covered with sustainable rattan weavings. These Pinoy details make the dining area seem warm, cozy, and comfortable

The kitchen is completed with recycled materials from one of Gelo's old projects. Just like the traditional bahay kubo, the space is also filled with wooden elements and furniture

Another feature in the kitchen that was inspired by the old-fashioned bahay kubo? The banggerahan by the kitchen sink used to dry plates, glasses, and other dinnerware! Instead of traditional bamboo slats, Gelo opted to use stainless steel.

Master Bedroom

The high ceiling and floor-to-ceiling screen windows help create a cool, cozy, and comfortable master bedroom.

Kiddie Room

To spruce up the kiddie room, Gelo drew colorful plants and animals. He hired an artist to paint the design on the bedroom walls. The space is completed with LED lighting and bamboo flooring
