5 Tips Inspired by a Beautiful Home Office in Manila

Food stylist Sharlene Tan and interior decorator Elle Uy share tips and tricks for the perfect space

Many homeowners are now working from home or running their own home-based businesses! However, many of these budding freelancers and  entrepreneurs are forced to work in their bedrooms or dining rooms. While this may be a common set-up, it often doesn't make you feel organized and productive!

If you would like to be more efficient at home, you may want to create an actual home office. To help get you started, here are the 5 things that we learned from food stylist Sharlene Tan:

Reupholster old pieces

Before you buy new pieces for your home office, you should consider repainting and reupholstering your old furniture!

For Sharlene's work area, interior decorator Elle Uy transformed an old-fashioned couch with white paint and green upholstery

Change the colors

The L-shaped home office used to be so dark because of the built in floor-to-ceiling cabinets made from wood. Now, the space looks bright because of the white paint, green wallpaper on the shelves, and the pink and green office chairs

Remove the cabinet doors

Aside from repainting the old cabinets, the old cabinet doors were also removed. Open shelves look more airy and spacious. To spruce up the newly-renovated shelves, Elle picked out bright green paint and floral-print wallpaper.

Invest in functional-yet-pretty details

Don't just settle for ordinary corkboards, bookshelves, and file cabinets! Paint your furniture and decor to create useful pieces that you would love to look at.

Create separate areas

Since Sharlene has to share her work space with her business partner, the L-shaped home office was also divided into two separate areas. The hot pink fabric on the classic chair with cabriole legs is a nice touch in the predominantly white corner.
