Opt for mismatched chairs

Repeat after us: normal is boring! Forget the notion that everything in your home always has to match. For example, you can surround your dining table with different dining chairs. 

Create a decoupage wall

Decoupage is the art of gluing layers of colored paper cutouts on a certain object. This is a way to personalize a plain and boring surface.

You can also try covering a bare wall with things that hold special meaning for you. For her dining area wall, the homeowner chose postcards from her mother and newspaper clippings of her late father. There are also pictures, maps, tickets, and other memorabilia.

Choose a vintage piece

Another thing that we immediately noticed in this thee-bedroom condo is this black rotary phone! You can also think about filling your home with antique items from family and friends.

Pick pieces with distressed finishes

You can also furnish your home with pieces that have a distressed finish! For a rustic appeal, you can look for items that seem worn and weathered.

For example, for this guest bedroom, the homeowner chose a headboard that could easily fit in a classic country home.

Experiment with colors

You can also use loud and vibrant colors to brighten up your home! For her own bedroom, the homeowner chose violet, green, and red.
