After renting different homes for 25 years, singer and actress Carla Estrada was excited to finally build her own house in an exclusive subdivision in Quezon City. According to Carla, this modern Mediterranean haven was a gift from her eldest son, Kapamilya star Daniel Padilla.

If you would like a similar look and feel for your own place, here are 5 tips and tricks based on this two-storey property:

Choose colored glass panes

If you are still building or renovating your own home, you may want to consider using colored glass panes for some of your windows. Colored glass can create an eclectic-meets-traditional feel in your private sanctuary.

RL Tip: You can also invest in chandeliers, furniture pieces, and decorative finds with wrought-iron details.

Install faux stone columns and arches

Here is another tip for people who are still building or renovating: install faux stone columns and arches! Stone cladding may be attached to the wall or ceiling or they can be placed on top of a metal frame.

Invest in tufted chairs

Most Mediterranean-style homes are filled with wood, stone, and metal. To provide contrast against the rustic and organic appeal of these earthy materials, you can choose a few fully upholstered pieces.

For example, architect Marie-Louie Torres de Leon furnished the living area with tufted chairs. These plush seats add a touch of elegance and sophistication to the two-storey house.

Look for chandeliers

You may also want to replace ordinary light bulbs with a grand chandeliers! These majestic lighting fixtures can add an unexpectedly dramatic feel to your home.

Opt for a hidden door

Surprisingly enough, this bookshelf is actually a hidden door that opens to reveal Daniel's bedroom! We think that this is a charming alternative to a plain and boring door.
