Some homeowners think that the Filipino style may seem too old-fashioned. However, if you choose a light color scheme and modern touches, antique pieces could look perfect. Your home could have the best of both worlds — the clean appeal of contemporary design and the unmistakable warmth of traditional Pinoy pieces.

If you need proof of just how beautiful a modern Filipino home could be, you should check out this two-storey property designed by architect Gelo Manosa and interior designer Vivian Gacad. Here are the five things that we can learn from this family home:

Paint the walls

Dark walls and wooden furniture can make your home seem unattractive! To create a clean and streamlined backdrop for your antique furniture, you may want to cover your walls with white paint.

Choose sheer curtains

Another way to highlight the charm of wooden furniture pieces is to brighten up the entire home! Opt for sheer curtains to let the sunlight in. You may also want to replace dim and dull light bulbs for a well-lit place.

Use traditional and modern pieces

You should also learn how to complement wooden furniture with modern choices. For example, you can surround a wooden dining table with fully upholstered chairs with nailhead trims.

Bring in splashes of color

White walls and wooden furniture can look bleak and dull! To make the home more interesting, you can opt for colorful details.

In this girls' bedroom, we loved the pink-and-white wallpaper, pink headboard, and pink print on the accent chair. These unexpected pops of color make the bedroom seem sweet and dainty.

Opt for playful finds

We also liked the paper flowers hanging from the ceiling and the mismatched throw pillows on the window seat! These unexpected elements livened up the girls' bedroom.
