3 Important Questions to Ask When Planning a Bathroom Layout
Consider your needs and having enough storage options
A great bathroom layout should be functional and safe. To make your dream bathroom come true, there are different factors that need to be considered. Let these three questions guide you in finalizing the layout of your space before you proceed.
Who will use the bathroom?
If you are sharing the shower area with your kids, safety should be a priority. Childproof the space by installing grab bars near the shower areas. Non-skid mats are also must-have pieces! To secure one's privacy, consider having an enclosed shower area.
How big is my floor space?
Whether you plan on having a tiny shower area or a large bathtub, a proper layout is crucial to having a well-maximized space. Keep in mind that it's safe to have at least 21 inches of clear floor space in front of every fixture and allot at least 30 inches by 30 inches for the shower so you can have enough elbow room. Lavatories should be at least 760-850mm high and there should always be at least 200mm on both sides of the lavatory.
Where can I keep my supplies and essentials?
The bathroom can be the most cluttered area in your home if you don’t have enough storage. “The best layout for a bathroom is one that has a lot of storage that are easy to reach," shares interior designer Peaches de Guzman-Grey. Don't forget to utilize the space under the sink! You can even add a wall-mounted shelf above the door. If you have an empty wall in the bathroom, you may install more shelves to utilize the vertical space.
