Aside from the enriching workshops and style inspiration—this year's Real Living Space also presented different ideas on how to make the most of a compact unit. From using different colors to squeezing in work corners, there's a lot that you can do as long as you are ready to experiment and see what will work for you and your loved ones!

One thing that we learned from RL Space is—you can never run out of storage ideas to try! From upcycled pieces to brilliant ways of using a table, you can create storage solutions for the different areas of the home. Here are six ideas that we've rounded up from the units that you can also apply in your own space:

A bar cart in the foyer

One of the challenges of small homes is having a space to welcome guests into the space. Since some cannot have entryways, you can create your own with the help of a bar cart as seen in this unit. Interior designer Pam Tan opted to place a cart from MAV Furniture to separate the entrance from the dining area.

You can also do the same! Create a similar look by placing catchalls in the cart where you can leave keys, decor pieces, and a small potted plant. Since it's near the dining area, it can also be used during get-togethers and parties. Place extra plates and bottles at the bottom so that it will be easier for you to get them when needed. You can also keep magazines and other essentials there.

Consider using a pegboard

Who wouldn't love this black pegboard found in the studio unit designed by Pai Edles and Misty Floro of Morfosis? You can use the same piece as organizer for your tools or as a message board! Use magnets to leave notes and reminders here as well.

Since the pegboard is a versatile piece, you can also use it to display photos and plants! Add a small pegboard in the kitchen to keep your utensils organized.

Make use of hooks and walls

Trouble storing your bags, scarves, and accessories? Look at your wall and see how you can maximize it. In this bedroom designed by interior designer John Vigilia, hooks were utilized to keep bags and necklaces organized. If you don't want to drill holes, you can always opt for sturdy hooks that have adhesives at the back.

Use the available vertical space and consider upcycling

This door-planter from Urban Abode found in the one-bedroom unit designed by interior designer Kristine Neri-Magturo utilizes vertical space and proves that you can still have the perks of a garden in a condo home. The planter is an upcycled piece that serves as a planter and coat hanger in one.

If you also have old pieces at home, see how you can repurpose it! Old tables and cabinets can be repainted and used again in the living area and bedroom.

Go for unique and personalized pieces

Aside from plastic containers and cabinets, you can also experiment with vintage and unique pieces. In this unit designed by architect Allen Oblena and interior designer Vera Villarosa-Orila, a metal luggage console from Allen Oblena Interiors was placed below the TV to hold decor pieces and other essentials.

Add an unexpected touch

Who says you can't add big pieces in a small unit? In this living area designed by Paul Baes and Joel Salazar of Lucina Home, an aqua escritoire or secretary desk is placed by the window—an ideal spot where the homeowner can work on her projects as well as read!

If you cannot have a home office at home, you can still create a work corner with just a few pieces. This secretary desk is ideal as it can serve as storage and work area in one. Opt for multipurpose and unexpected pieces to complete your space.
