Believe it or not, storage solutions don't have to be basic and boring. While we're usually told that it is better to keep extra cabinets invisible to the naked eye, that doesn't mean we can't go the other way and incorporate it with beautiful decor. To give you fresh ideas, we've put together five unexpected solutions to your organizing woes: 

Remember the antique trunks your grandparents passed on to you? Put it to good use by utilizing it as an organizer for collections—be it magazines, vinyl records, or framed art.

Storage units can look charming, too. Invest in a custom-made cabinet that can store dolls and stuffed animals—this way, you're able to keep clutter out of sight and the kids have a spare "toy" at their disposal. 

If you're going for an industrial look and you need a system that can be shared by a few people, consider using school lockers! You can leave it by the foyer or the garage and use it to segregate outer wear, shoes and other essentials for going out.

Although it's an uncommon practice, shoes can be stored in closets too—especially taller pairs like boots and high-cut sneakers. Just make sure not to mix it with clean clothes and accessories to keep your cabinets from getting smelly. 

No console table for your favorite indoor plants or perhaps musical instruments? Use hardbound coffee table books instead! Simply stack them together and use it as a stand for anything you want to put on display. Doing this helps you save precious shelf space, too!
