They’re tried and tested, and you can never have too many of them!

You might have heard these tips before, but isn’t it interesting to know how different homeowners applied these storage tricks in their own spaces? See how they did it, and score some style tips along the way!

1. Use modular storage pieces in small spaces.

The beauty of modular pieces is that you can assemble or configure them to the requirements of your space. Interior designer Evangeline Lim made this storage cabinet even more functional by making the sliding door into a blackboard using a metal sheet painted with chalkboard paint.

2. Turn the space under the stairs into storage.

No matter how tiny the space under your stairs is, you can still use it as storage. Homeowner Bien Po made small shelves under the stairs of his one-bedroom, bi-level condo unit to house books and other knickknacks. He even squeezed in his refrigerator under the stairs!

3. Use wall hooks to hang some of your belongings.

Who doesn’t love hooks? They’re easy to install, and some are so pretty they make for stylish decor all on their own! Here in writer Mabi David’s studio unit, wall hooks hold her stylish tote bags, adding a personal touch to the room.

4. Go for a bed with drawers underneath.

This tip cannot be emphasized enough, especially if you’re scrambling for more storage space. Getting a bed with drawers will save you a lot of trouble. If you can’t find one that suits your space or style, have one custom-made. Interior designer Kristine Neri-Magturo had this bed made at Abode & Co., now Urban Abode, her furniture manufacturing outfit and retail store.

5. Create a floating cabinet in your small bathroom.

Floating cabinets (or any piece for that matter) don’t take up a lot of floor space, so you can get rid of that cramped look, just like what architect John Yuyucheng did in this bathroom. The slots inside the cabinets were even made to fit rolled up towels perfectly.
