Decide on your toolbox style.

First, decide on what type of toolbox you want—a plastic one or a heavy-duty metal tackle box? Would you need a working table as well? It all depends on how much handy-work you’re willing to do.

Consider having a cart on wheels.

If a standard toolbox isn’t enough for you, or you live in a condo with no garage, store your tools in a cart on casters or wheels. It can be easily rolled into the area that needs fixing.

Avoid rusting.

Prevent your tools from rusting by placing a piece of charcoal in your toolbox to absorb moisture. Just keep the coal in small mesh bags to prevent your tools from becoming black.

Prepare specialty kits.

Aside from your basic toolbox, assemble a couple of specialty kits in their own boxes for the most frequent home repairs, like these:

  1. Handheld drill with drill bits
  2. Tools for hanging things on the wall: (hooks, nails, hammer level, measuring tape, pencil)
  3. Box of spare light bulbs

Tip: Stash nails, screws, and other dimunitive pieces in drawer organizers or utensils caddy.
