There are no shortcuts and perfect step-by-step guides to keep the kitchen clean and clutter-free. Since kitchens vary in size and layout, each of us may have mastered a couple of easy hacks that work best for us. However, there are basic steps that you can do to keep it spic-and-span.

Storage is of utmost importance and keeping essentials accessible is also a good idea. Here are five helpful hints that you may want to consider.

Keep frequently used items in accessible places

Place your plates, cups, and pans in areas that are easy to reach. If possible, place these essentials at eye level then keep heavy pieces at the bottom part of shelves and cabinets. Keep pieces that you seldom use like holiday-themed ceramics on the topmost shelf.

Store kitchenware and condiments nearby

Condiments such as salt, sugar, and spices can be placed on a corner of the countertop so you can easily get them while preparing food. However, avoid placing big pots and pans on the counter as these take too much space. Flatware can be stored near the dishwasher.

Group similar items together

Identify your tools and group them based on function. Keep your kitchen cabinets clean and organized by using old newspapers as shelf liners.

 Declutter regularly

Old kitchen utensils and broken dinnerware must be discarded as soon as possible to avoid accidents. Store dinnerware properly to avoid chips and cracks. Keeping these items organized and curated will give you more space for other essentials, too.

If you use one cabinet for ingredients and other food supplies, it's important that you keep track of expiration dates. You may consider adding labels or putting items that are about to expire in front as well. Click here for more pantry organizing tips.

Keep it clean

Since the kitchen is a busy area, it's unavoidable to have spills, dust, and dirt in the space. Make sure you wipe spills as soon as possible and that you clean cabinets, countertops, and appliances regularly. Doing these musts help maintain the quality of your kitchen must-haves, too!
