There's nothing more fun than putting up Christmas decorations once December comes rolling in, but placing them back in storage come the New Year can be the total opposite. To help you get it done with ease, we've put together a few clever storage solutions and organizing ideas that will leave you with more time to relax over the break. Check them out below:

1. Save scratch papers. You can reuse old wrapping paper as cushioning for the breakable decor. Used wrapping tissue can also protect fabric ornaments from fading or tearing. You can even run them through a paper shredder and use the fluffy strips as packing filler.

2. Keep tabs with labels. Take the time to name your storage boxes carefully. Write an inventory of the items in each box. You can assign a notebook for this so that next Christmas, you don't need to haul everything out.

3. Suit it up. Make use of old suitcases or overnight bags to store your holiday linens. Place lavender-scented dryer sheets in between the linen to keep moths away and make them smell good. An added plush with linens will help maintain the shape of the suitcases 'til your next trip.

4. Don't throw out the original packaging. Christmas tree ornaments—especially the more delicate ones—are best kept in their original containers to preserve them for a longer time. You can store the boxes flat while the decors are still in use.

5. Don't delay the task of organizing them. Instead of putting off storing your holiday decor and then tossing it all in one big box come New Year, take time to properly store it. Prepare a storage kit—fill an old box with used boxes, scissors, a marker for labeling, and packing tape. With this kit, you can make organizing easier.
