A lot of homeowners who rely on intentional homekeeping would agree when we say that while bleach is practical and easy, it can be quite dangerous when used often. It is found to irritate sensitive skin, the eyes, poison live fish and even release carcinogenic dioxins which we can accidentally take in.

Fortunately, there are other ways to whiten linens and banish stains without risking your health! Check out these two tried-and-tested alternatives to a store-bought bottle:

Lemon Soak

What you need:

  • 2-3 lemons (depends on your laundry load)
  • a large pot

How-to:

  • Fill a large pot with water and bring to a boil.
  • Turn off heat, add clothing or linens and then the lemons.
  • Let it soak for an hour or two. Launder clothes as usual.
