A Guide on How to Clean Aircon Filters
Clean your trusty cooler with these tips
We will always need air-conditioners in our hot and humid climate. But if you hear a loud swishing noise, see dust particles being shot into the air, or feel the AC becoming warmer—all symptoms of a dirty AC filter—your unit may not be in the best condition. So roll up your sleeves, take out your filter, and clean it. The ideal cleaning schedule is once a month, but you can do so once a week or if your AC is turned on for most of the day.
Follow these steps:
- Turn off your air-conditioner and unplug it. Open the AC’s front grill and take the filter out. (Consult the AC’s instruction manual for instructions on how to do this properly.)
- Prepare a solution of mild soap and lukewarm (not hot) water. Wash the filter gently with this solution, then rinse with water.
- Set aside the filter to dry completely before re-installing it.
- You also need to clean the front cover or panel. Wipe off dust and dirt with a sponge or a clean rag soaked in your lukewarm-water-and-soap solution. Wipe well to dry. If you can’t re-attach the filter or turn on your AC afterwards, call your service dealer for help.
