6 Ways to Clean Kitchen Cabinets

Regular cleaning can keep your cupboards free from dirt, grease, and more

Kitchen cabinets are prone to food spills, grease, dust, and even moisture. Without regular and proper cleaning, these elements may affect the material of your cabinet and the items kept inside, too.

Here are six handy hints to help you keep your cabinets and cupboards spotless.

Keep these tips in mind:
  • Start by removing all of the contents of your cabinets—including the shelf liners. Clean the inside thoroughly using a damp cloth. If you're returning the items already, you may use old newspapers as shelf liners.
  • Avoid using harsh cleaning products as they can damage the finishing of your piece. You may use a mild cleaner first then consider using a stronger solution if the need arises.
  • Wipe the cabinets weekly using a damp cloth and a mild dishwashing liquid. Read and review the labels of your cleaning products before proceeding. There are cleaning materials that aren't meant for wood or steel finishes.

  • Spray cleaners on the cloth and not on the cabinet itself. Directly spraying it to the cabinet may cause material damage.
  • If you own glass front cabinets, clean it regularly with a homemade vinegar solution and a microfiber cloth. Avoid using sponges as it can cause streaks and scratches.
  • Avoid using oil-based cleaners on wooden cabinets as these products attract dust. Consider using shoe polish or a special wax cleaner instead. This helps treat scratches as well.
