Whether you have wood, marble, or concrete floors at home—regular maintenance and proper cleaning can help maintain its quality.

Keep in mind that the floors can be one of the dirtiest parts of the home given the dirt and grime that we bring in from the outside. Preserve the quality of your floors and keep it clean with the help of these hints.

Keep these tips in mind:

Add a rack or cabinet by the door.

As much as possible, do not bring your dirty shoes or slippers indoors. Having a rack or bin outside can help you keep shoes and slippers organized.

Consider using furniture leg caps.

Prevent dents on your flooring by adding leg caps to your furniture pieces. You can choose from a wide array of products as there are non-slip options.

Install felt pads on furniture legs.

If you're not too keen on using leg caps, you may also opt for felt pads. These can be used on more home must-haves like lamps, TVs, computer equipment, and more. If you're planning to rearrange the furniture at home, these pads will surely come in handy to shield your floors from scratches.

Use homemade cleaners.

If you’re working with a tight budget, consider using ingredients found at home when cleaning your floors. You may sprinkle baking soda on your carpet, leave it for a few minutes, then start vacuuming.

RL Tip: Avoid using citrus solutions when cleaning wooden floors as this may cause the material to fade.

Add doormats in every entryway.

Doormats are your first line of defense when it comes to preventing dust and dirt from entering your home. Make sure you leave mats at the different entry points of the home—including areas like the bathroom and bedroom.

RL Tip: You can create your own doormat that matches the style of your space. Click here for the step-by-step guide.
