5 Cleaning Hacks You Can Do with Vodka

From vinegar to baking soda, almost anything that can be found in our pantry can be used to clean our homes nowadays. Same goes for the bottle of vodka we keep on-hand in our bar—it can serve as an all-purpose cleaner, deodorizer and even as a polish for silver—thanks to its unmatched antibacterial properties. If you want to learn how to use this party-favorite for removing stains and smells, you can start with these ideas: 

Get rid of post-workout stink on your clothes.  To make sure your gym clothes are fresh for your next run, add half a cup vodka to your usual wash. Vodka offers the same benefits as vinegar without the sour aroma. 

Disinfect your mattress. We may not notice it, but we tend to perspire when we sleep—especially in a country like ours with endless hot weather. Keep your bed from getting soiled by keeping a spray bottle filled with vodka handy. Spritz the mattress as needed and let it dry before changing the sheets. 

Deodorize shoes. Aside from your cushion, you can use vodka to freshen up your daily footwear, too. For an extra kick, add a few drops of your favorite essential oil—peppermint works best!

Clean glass sans fingerprints. All you have to do is spritz windows, vases and sliding doors with a bit of vodka and squeegee them dry for a streak-free shine. 

Remove rust from fancy jewelry. Keep your favorite silver pieces from tarnishing by soaking your arm candy in a shallow vodka bath for 15 minutes before buffing them with a microfiber cloth.
