Bam is a proud design educator and an upcycling enthusiast. He is finishing his master degree in interior design at the University of The Philippines and aiming to specialize in Place Studies or Environmental Psychology in the future.
He says that the Filipino dwelling is a powerful environmental tool in preserving memories and inner being. What a designer puts inside it is embedded in the personal history of the dweller. Which is why clutter must be seen as a language using objects communicated symbolically to the interior designer.
Thus, the goal of interior design is not to sanitize or obliterate clutter but to honor the meaning encoded within these objects. This is why Bam's philosophy in design has changed through the years of practice because he believes that personal space is an analog form of a memory storage.
