Living alone can be a challenge at first. But as most people who have given solo dwelling a shot and loved it, it will prove to be a liberating experience. Freedom becomes the operative word, with no one but oneself to decide on everything – from house rules and schedules down to the look and design of the space.

Yet, the latter can present another problem. What to do with whatever space given and how to truly maximize it?

It’s become a challenge overcome by host, singer-songwriter, and content creator Jazper Tiongson who, for over a decade now, has been living alone in his studio condo in Pasig. He resides inside a space only spanning 17 square meters, which he has transformed into an aesthetically intriguing and impressively efficient bachelor’s pad.

Read on to see how he masterfully designed the studio unit he lovingly calls his mansion.

Studio Unit-Turned-Bachelor's Pad

Save for part of the bed smartly tucked farthest from the door, one can conveniently see all sides of the studio upon entrance.

On the right is a cute L-shaped kitchen. On one side, to save space, Jazper placed small furniture and appliances such as a small fridge and a couple of coffee makers. Up in the compartments are his cutlery and other similarly portable appliances like a microwave and a toaster. He tweaked the other side into a multipurpose area, with a pull-out table that doubles for dining and for work.

In line with maximizing the space, the compartments on this side carry only diminutive but necessary items like a digital clock and a eufy indoor camera bought from PLDT Home to help monitor the unit even when the homeowner is away.

A few inches from the kitchen area is a built-in cabinet, where Jazper neatly stores his clothes, shoes, and other valuables. At two arm's length right across is another that hides the rest of his stuff but with space for one – a la walk-in closet.

The rest of this side of the studio is for vanity. There’s a full-length mirror fastened on the wall to help Jazper clean up for his gigs. Meanwhile, the bathroom is a spa experience in itself with an illuminated, anti-fog mirror.

The highlight of Jazper’s unit is the bed. Niftily hidden from the kitchen area, it's as cozy as it gets with not much distraction around. The built-in bedside table is deliberately freed up of any work-related items. A couple of lamps lend faint light to help with the mood – that is, until the ceiling-to-floor black-out curtains are pulled open to reveal a view of Ortigas.

The bed has its own entertainment system, too – with some smart audio equipment Jazper uses for his work-from-home projects.

For the colors, blue and gray are mostly used to blend in with the homey wooden furniture. But while generally minimalist in his aesthetic of the place, Jazper didn’t forget to inject some warmth and character across different corners of the unit. Portraits, indoor plants, travel souvenirs, awards and certificates of recognition, his collection of spectacles and shades, and more make for easy decor.

“When I got this place, we made sure na everything, all the spaces, could be utilized. Walang tapon! So from floor to ceiling, may nangyayari,” he shares.

Ensuring Peace of Mind Even Inside Guarded Buildings

Keeping his home protected is thus Jazper’s priority. Though there is security personnel in his building, it still pays to be extra careful, he says. When it comes to home security, he doesn't leave anything to chance.

To save power and prevent fire incidents, he uses smart plugs. He ensures they are turned off when not in use by remotely controlling appliances through an app. To safeguard his valuables, he utilizes secret compartments within cabinets.

As his eyes when not home, Jazper relies on the eufy Indoor Camera 2K – a high-resolution 2K camera that detects motion, distinguishing pet from human. Aside from real-time footage, it allows for real-time dialogues with 2-way audio. Through the eufy Security App, the device alerts and reports anything of interest, giving him peace of mind.

“Every time [kasi] na meron akong gig, siyempre lagi akong nasa labas, so walang tao dito. That is why I’m so grateful that I got it,” he says.

“I can see footage in 2k resolution. It also has a built-in AI which detects motion. It also automatically follows movements and records in case something interesting happens. Alerts and reports get sent to me through the app, which is also where I can access real-time and recorded videos. So, I can check back at home any time I want to.”

“[As someone living alone,] this is also one of the best investments that I got for myself,” he adds.

To make sure his indoor camera stays connected 24/7, Jazper relies on PLDT Home's fast and reliable internet connection – which, as proof, recently won the Ookla® Speedtest Awards™ for five years in a row.
