3 Ways to Choose the Right Type of Flooring For Your Home

Whether you're in the process of building your own home or renovating the space you've lived in for years, you'd have to check the flooring material and see if it can withstand wear and tear. Aside from doing some research and visiting home depots to learn more about the different options, it's best to consult with a design professional so that you can avoid mistakes and make the most of your budget.

Interior designer Jean Suzanne Sy shares a couple of insights that tackle commonly asked questions about flooring materials. Learn the basics and keep these in mind:

Determine your budget and choose the best option within your means.

If you’re looking for a material that won’t cost much, Suzanne suggests choosing vinyl flooring. It's covered in plastic-like coating that repels dust and dirt. It's easier to maintain as well—you just need to polish it with wax or clean it using warm water and detergent.

Consider the thickness of the tile.

Those who prefer to use tiles should look into the thickness of the tile before making a final decision. "It is essential because thicker tiles usually don't fade easily compared to thin tiles," says Suzanne. Don't hesistate to ask a design professional about these materials. Store attendants can also give valuable input so don't be afraid to ask questions.

Go local with bamboo flooring.
