Maintaining a garden at home is no easy feat. How do you deal with soil problems, lack of water sources or poor sunlight? You can actually deal with these problems by choosing the right set of plants! Check out three common problems below and the best type of plant for each.

Low-light

Areas which receive half a day of sunlight or even less, or areas with filtered sunlight, usually have limited options for groundcovers. You can opt for low-maintenance plants that can thrive under low-light like spider plants or aluminum plants. They prefer moderate watering and fertile soil rich in organic matter.

Poor garden soil

Some areas in the garden have crumbly or sandy soil, making it unable to hold much moisture and nutrients. Consider having drought-tolerant plants such as dwarf mother-in-law’s tongue or Christmas plants. Since they are drought-tolerant, over-watering results in rotting of its leaves and roots. Make sure you water them once a week.

Water logged-areas

Because of poor drainage due to heavy clay soil, some areas in the garden become water-logged. This becomes more evident when the areas do not receive too much sun. Water plants or golden pothos are known to thrive in these areas.
