Aside from adding visual accents to a space, color has the power to stimulate the senses and motivate the soul. But did you know that there are some colors, depending on your Chinese zodiac sign and year, which are believed to bring you luck and prosperity?

According to this article from The Chinese Zodiac, earth tones are the luckiest colors to wear in the Year of the Earth Dog, 2018, which will start on February 16, 2018. According to Chinese astrology, 2018 is more auspicious to those whose signs fall under the earth, fire, and metal years, and less so for those born in the water and wood years.

Here are other lucky colors for 2018:

Brown and beige

This comes as good news for those who love neutral palettes! Brown and beige are the colors of the earth and align with the current element of the New Year.

These tones also allude to constancy and safety, and are best used in living rooms, dining rooms, and even furniture showrooms. Deep browns, and light or sandy beiges are favored shades.

Yellow

This bright hue is a cheerful and energetic color, and is thus considered an optimistic choice for living rooms, dining rooms, and kitchens.

Green

Shades of green are also in harmony with the wood or earth elements, and are especially auspicious for those born in the Year of the Ox or Rabbit (to see the full list of lucky colors per sign, click here). If you’re too timid to use green for an entire room, you can add subtle sage or mint on accent walls or soft furnishings.

Blue

This hue is also aligned with water, one of the key elements in the Year of the Dog. You don’t have to use a bright blue, but can opt for subtler blues such as robins'-egg-blue, turquoise, or a sophisticated blue-green or teal.
