So you’ve moved into your new home, and invested P30,000 on a new sofa, leaving you with only P1,500 in your wallet. Now what?

Keeping your living room bare is out of the question—after all, it’s the first (and usually the only) room your guests will see. When decorating living rooms, we usually think that this is the costliest part of the house. We are happy to say that with a small budget of P1,500, you can definitely have a stylish sala.

Our tips: stick to a subtle, neutral color palette to make it look sophisticated even on a budget (we used a palette of cream, khaki, and light teal). Go for simple patterns or plains with the soft furnishings. And when you’ve saved up after a few months, invest in an area rug to ground the whole look.

Curtains: P449.75

Let’s start with the curtains—very important! Curtains not only block out the sun and provide privacy, but these can also add color and texture to a blank wall.

Side/Center Table: P695

This multi-purpose table—with its black wire base—can fit any style of living room—be it minimalist, boho, or even mid-century modern. Its tray top can be removed to stash books or clutter. The size of the table makes it easy to switch from a side to a center table.

Throw Pillow Covers: P59.75

Make your sofa come alive by adding pops of color. Choose two striped pillows, or one striped, and one plain coordinate.

Another way to spice up a blank wall is to create a mini gallery. Hang frames of different shapes, colors, and sizes. A collage of memories on your wall will absolutely put a smile on your space and can become conversation starters.

Vase: P88

Vases—even without plants in them—are great for decorating a room or accenting a tabletop. Its shape, size, and color become accent pieces all on their own,

Faux Plant: P59.75

Add greenery to your living room! Even if this sprig is fake, it will still give off a vibe of freshness, brightness, and coolness to any space.
