WATCH: This Designer Sofa Transforms Into Bed With Storage
A sleek and modern couch like this is a must-have for studio units and condo homes
We’ve gotten used to the usual off-the-floor sofa beds: bulky clunkers that awkwardly transform into spindly cot beds that are less-than-stable. But what if you had a beautiful designer sofa that easily transforms into an equally sleek bed? Wouldn’t that be awesome?
Now there is such a piece in the form of a sofa bed designed by Rafa Garcia, one of the primary designers of premium Spanish furniture brand Sancal. The sofa bed, aptly named Nap, has a tufted upholstery finish inspired by old, traditional pin-tucked woolen mattresses.
Aside from its sleek looks, the Nap is also noteworthy because of the ease of transformation from sofa to bed. Check it out in the video here, and the other features below:
The best part about this sofa is that you don’t need to flex those muscles to transform it into a bed. All you have to do is to slide the backrest away from the seat, and then flip it over to turn it into part of the mattress.
And in our opinion, definitely not unsightly and very comfortable, unlike the military-cot-inspired forms of traditional sofa beds. As you can see in this catalog photo, the arms transform into the headboard and footboard—clever!
The best feature of this sofa bed is the wooden, built-in storage at the base that slides open, where you can stash your pillows, blankets, and maybe a book or two. Hidden storage spaces like these are essential in small homes and studio units.
