Hanging a painting isn't the only way to jazz up a blank wall. Want more ideas? Here are some:

1. Paint a mural.

Even in a small space, architect Allen Oblena managed to deliver a huge impact, thanks to the mural of the Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute that he painted himself. The mural also anchors the dining area.

2. Use a trompe l'oeil curtain.

Thinking it's a door behind that couch? It's actually a trompe l'oeil curtain from H&M Home. Have one at home and it will surely be a conversation starter.

3. Go for a brick wall.

A brick wall instantly adds warmth and texture to a space. It can also act as a feature wall and can be a great focal point in a room.

4. Create a faux window.

You can make a statement even at your stairs landing. Here, interior designer Wilan Dayrit put mirrors that draw attention to the ceiling height. The mirrors also look like a French window, keeping the area from feeling enclosed.

5. Paint personalized typography.

In this condo unit that homeowner Chrissy Icamina-Dalusong shares with her husband, a wall near the kitchen showcases words from their wedding vows. This meaningful detail gives the condo unit a personal stamp.
