This Study Will Make You Leave Your Shoes At The Door

Who needs to wear them in the house anyway?

It is common practice for Filipinos to remove the shoes before entering the house. In fact, there's a popular running joke that says—the quickest way to tell if you're Asian is if you do the same when visiting someone else's home. Did you know that this is actually a good practice?

According to an April 2017 study led by Kevin Garey, PharmD, MS, FASHP, a professor of pharmacy practice at the University of Houston, everyone should start leaving shoes at the front door. It says the soles of our shoes carry all sorts of pathogenic microbes that no amount of cleaning can get rid of once it lands in your home and it carries a particularly dangerous variety called Clostridium difficile that can cause a handful of diseases including bacterial infection. 

The study also states that simply wiping the soles of our shoes on a doormat won’t do the trick and it might even make things worse because rugs tend to trap all sorts of germs as well.
