This Kapitolyo Restaurant Will Inspire You to Give Your Home a Vibrant Upgrade
You’re in for a satisfying ride at Gerry’s Jeepney
While Makati is known for its hidden cafes and Maginhawa is famous for the strip of interesting food stops, Kapitolyo has also been making its mark among foodies and those looking for a new place to explore. Whether you're into design or food escapades, you'll surely enjoy a trip to this Pasig haunt. One of the restaurants that we visited recently is Gerry's Jeepney—a colorful and unique stop that would have you capturing and posting photos. The reason why? It screams Filipino culture and quirky design.
The concept of the one-of-a-kind restaurant along East Capitol Drive draws inspiration from the owner himself, Gerry—who is loud, vibrant, and very Filipino—very much like the reliable jeepney. If you're looking for ideas that you can use to spruce up your home, here are some that we loved in the resto:
1. Get creative with colors and decor.
The art seen in one jeepney is different from the others. Every piece of decor symbolizes the driver's story and personality—from the accessories on his dashboard or even the embellishments chosen to decorate his ride. Do the same by releasing the artist in you! Create your own wall art that represents the things you love. Have fun with items you already have or recycle whatever you can find at home. There are no rules—be bold, have fun, and just be inspired.
2. Don't be afraid of color.
Whether it's yellow, gray, or blue—these colors can affect our mood. Update your home with lively hues and it will surely give it an energetic vibe. Nothing beats waking up to a bright and refreshing space!
RL Tip: Not ready yet to paint your walls? Get started with furniture. Paint an old chair yellow or a tired table green—whatever color you choose, make sure it follows your home's overall palette.
3. Experiment with repurposed wood.
Refurbished wood has its own character and distinct look. Armed with your DIY skills or with the guidance of a professional, you can craft pieces of furniture like tables, benches, and even chairs. Since it's a versatile must-have, you can also use it to liven up a plain wall! Use it as a wall accent, paint it, or use it as a background for your framed prints and photographs.
4. Cove it up!
Highlight your wall accents by outlining its shape with LED strip lights. This creates a halo effect that spreads out on your walls. Admire it from a distance and see how these lights make your decor pop and stand out.
5. Use unexpected accent pieces.
When we think of Galvanized Iron Sheets or yero, we think of roofs or walls that cover up a construction site. You don't have to be limited by these functions. You can also use it as a material for wainscoting instead of the usual wooden panels. G.I. Sheets come in different colors—pay a visit to the nearest hardware store—and see which one suits your space best. Once you've picked the right one, use it to add a bold statement to your kitchen or bedroom. Check out the counter in the resto for inspiration.
6. Don't forget the ceiling.
We must admit, we often take our ceilings for granted. After all, guests don't usually look up, right? While you can always stick to a safe, plain white ceiling—keep in mind that it can use a simple upgrade, too! Be inspired by what Gerry's Jeepney did—use old (especially if you want a dramatic, rustic effect) windows or window casings to add character and oomph to your lighting fixture. It can provide support and serve as a fitting backdrop to an industrial-inspired piece.
Gerry's Jeepney is located at 73 East Capitol Drive, Pasig City. Follow them on Facebook for more updates.
