These Delightful Furniture Pieces Will Transport You To Europe

European travel and vintage collections are two concepts that many people are very fond of. For some, Europe is a favorite destination, and there’s a certain romantic, storied appeal that vintage pieces tend to have.

Kassa by Karen Santos brings these two concepts together in her latest furniture show at Nest along Jupiter Street in Makati. Several pieces of antiques and vintage furniture and home accessories are on display until the end of this month. Enter the store and you'll be greeted with beautifully-styled vignettes of ormolu tables, slipper chairs, glam sofas, unusual artwork, and a touch of Chinoiserie.

“What makes this season more special and different are the color schemes and the versatility of the home accessories and furniture pieces I’ve scoured from all over Europe,” says Karen Santos, the fashion designer-turned-curator of beautiful things. Karen also designs beautiful table linen, and is known for her elegant table settings.

Karen comes home from Europe loaded with these treasures, and she improves upon them and reupholsters the seats in unique and luxurious fabrics. Other pieces are left alone, in their exquisite beauty. Let’s take a tour:

The inspired and curated collection of home accents includes ceramic vases and soup turreens, 1970s glass, blown glass finials on pedestals, foo dogs, and more.

The tabletop accessories are grouped via color: jade green and fire orange, coral and ivory, Delft blue and white. This way, you can color-coordinate or mix-and-match your accessories, depending on how brave you are.

One vermillion-red corner is accented with European-style sconces with displays of yellow ceramics and glassware. Karen says her use of the sconces was an accident—she realized the yellow vases looked beautiful on them only while setting the collection up.

The standout pieces and the collection’s most precious items are the two large and unusual Japanese tapestries that are more than a hundred years old. Karen found these in France.

Other unique pieces include these glamorous lounging sofas and armchairs that are a bit 70s-styled with a hint of Art Deco. Though luxe in fabric, these could go well

“I’m happy with how this collection effortlessly came together. From the color schemes to the versatility of the furniture pieces that we have, there’s substance and solidity to it,” Karen explains. “It’s exciting to see how people can easily integrate the different iterations of these unique things into their own homes.”
