Now that summer is officially here, we're sure that there will be days when the heat will be unbearable. No need to fret as there are ways to make the house cooler this season. While you're at it, it's best to rid your space of clutter, too! Having clutter all over the house won't make you feel better so get your cleaning essentials ready and let this list guide you.

Kitchen
  • Clean shelves by wiping its outer and inner parts with a mild liquid soap.
  • Wipe countertops, cupboard doors, and appliance exteriors with a damp cloth.
  • Organize the pantry by discarding food and beverages that are past their prime.

  • Defrost the freezer and clean it using homemade cleaning solutions.

  • Clean the interiors of the oven using a homemade baking soda paste. Let it sit overnight, then rinse the paste by wiping it using a damp cloth.
  • Wash ventilation hood filters.
  • Clean kitchen windows or screens.
  • Mop and vacuum the kitchen floors.

Dining Room
  • Remove dust in furniture, light fixtures, and shelves using a microfiber cloth and a feather duster.
  • Mop and vacuum the floors
  • Polish furniture using an all-purpose polishing tool.
  • Organize table centerpieces.
  • Clean windows or screens.

Living Room
  • Mop the floors.
  • Rotate cushions in the sofa and fluff pillows.
  • Remove dust in furniture, light fixtures, and shelves using a microfiber cloth and a feather duster.
  • Use a damp cloth when cleaning your sofa.
  • Wash your sofa slipcovers.
  • Change curtains, rugs, and throw pillows.
  • Disinfect the remote controls and the landline phone using a cleaning solution of rubbing alcohol and water.
  • Clean windows or screens.

Bedroom
  • Rotate mattress and change linens, sheets, and pillowcases.
  • Air out mattress outdoors.
  • Vacuum the entire room and mop the floors.
  • Fluff pillows and comforters.
  • Remove dust in furniture, light fixtures, and shelves using a microfiber cloth and a feather duster.
  • Organize your bookshelf  and closet.
  • Clean windows or screens.

Entryway
  • Remove dust in staircase, light fixtures, and shelves using a microfiber cloth and a feather duster.
  • Vacuum the area and mop the floors.
  • Change the rugs.
  • Organize shoe shelves or cabinets.
  • Polish wooden fixtures using an all-purpose cleaning polish.

Bathroom
  • Wipe mirrors using a microfiber cloth.
  • Mop the floors.
  • Clean shower and scrub out soap scum. Click here to learn how.
  • Using a soft bristled brush and a ph-neutral cleaner or bleach, gently scrub the bathroom tiles.
  • Check your items in the medicine cabinet and throw out medicines or beauty products that are past their shelf life. Clean the cabinet using a homemade vinegar cleaner.
  • Pour half cup baking soda mixed with half cup vinegar down the drain, to clean out bathroom pipes.
  • Wipe bathtub or shower area with warm half cup water mixed with half cup baking soda.

  • Clean the shower curtain with a soft-bristled brush and ½ cup baking soda.
  • Wipe countertops, cupboard doors, and appliance exteriors using a damp cloth.
  • Use a homemade baking soda cleaner to clean the sink and vanity counter.
  • Clean the toilet bowl using white vinegar as a cleaner. Pour ¼ cup of vinegar into the toilet bowl, let it sit for a few minutes, brush it, then flush.
  • Clean windows or screens.

Outdoor Area
  • Wipe windows and glass doors using a homemade vinegar cleaner.
  • Remove cobwebs and debris using a broom.
  • Remove dust from your garden furniture and light fixtures using a microfiber cloth and a feather duster.
  • Remove the screens of your windows. Lay them down on your garage and wash off loose dirt using a hose. Use a soft-bristled brush and a mild dishwashing liquid to scrub dirt from the screen.
  • Use a rake to gather dried leaves and twigs.

Utility Room / Laundry Area
