The Oriental Leyte was one of the new structures in the province when super typhoon Yolanda (international name: Haiyan) struck on November 8, 2014. The damage was of unprecedented magnitude. Because of the storm surge, violent seawaters wrecked every structure on its path; and The Oriental Hotel Leyte, on its seaside location, was badly hit. A journalist from the telegraph.co.uk wrote that the sea rammed onto the hotel walls, the second floor landing started to get filled with water, and their group of six journalists climbed through the ceiling and held on to the beams as the storm wreaked havoc on the province. (Read the story here).

But now, three years after the storm, The Oriental Leyte has risen from destruction. It reopened last October, and guests and tourists who would like to visit Leyte are very much welcome to stay there. Here are some photos that show how the hotel is doing now.

Just look at that gorgeous pool! Who wouldn't want to bask in the sun and feel the sea breeze on one of those lounge chairs?

This space is peppered with Asian elements, making it homey especially for Filipinos and guests from neighboring Asian countries.

Woven baskets or bukag and shells or baluko from Sorsogon deck the ceiling and add a Filipino flavor to this restaurant at the hotel.

There are no words to describe how stunning this view is—it will leave you breathless.
