The New IKEA Catalogue Is Giving Us Serious Decorating Envy
We cant wait for IKEA to open on our shores! Take a peek at their 2018 catalogue here.
Raise your hands, all of you who have tucked into your bag an IKEA catalogue from one of the stores. Guilty? Not guilty? Come on, don’t lie!
Whether you’d admit or not, the iconic catalogue from the world's most popular Scandinavian store has been used as a peg for many a homeowner who have been lucky enough to set foot in one of their stores. But no need to message a friend living abroad—you can download their 2018 catalogue online!
Their introduction reads: “Make room for life…in the spaces of your home where you need it the most. Ask yourself: what do I love to do? And dare to furnish it.” These are apt words for the “me” generation, and the trend of personalizing spaces. So while we are waiting for IKEA to open on our shores, let’s take a peek at some of their peg-worthy images:
IKEA hacks, all in one room.
Although many IKEA pieces are quite basic, the brand encourages homeowners to personalize the plain pieces with paint, washi tape, and other finishes. Here, mosaic tile adds graphic punch to a Lack coffee table, while fluoro paint jazzes up Ingefara plant pots.
A classic piece in a funky pattern.
The Klippan sofa has been around for decades, and has been a staple in many a new homeowner’s space. It gets an update in boldy-printed, black-and-white tropical palms.
A cool, designer-style armchair.
We are predicting that the Vedbo armchair will be the next modern classic. It may be a little bit pricey (for IKEA), but we think the high-backrest, slim-but-masculine form, and on-trend dark gray upholstery are all worth it.
This kid-friendly kitchen.
The Sektion kitchen has one countertop that is lower than the others, so that the kids can help mom and dad cook. Another cute, kid-friendly touch: blackboard-painted sides to scribble your recipes on.
The Svarta loft bed frame can be customized for a wardrobe or study area underneath, if you don’t have a roommate.
And by the way, have you seen this fluffy Krusning lamp? It comes packed and folded, and when you open it up, all you have to do is crumple it into a cloud. It’s so therapeutic. (To see the lamp in a Real Home, click here.)
Beautiful color, everywhere.
IKEA is known for their plain white, black, and neutral-themed pieces, but this year, we’ve been seeing a lot of furniture, décor, and dinnerware in canary yellow, peacock blue, pistachio, teal green, and Millennial Pink. We love the elegant Tillagd gold flatware here, too.
