What are the factors to consider in choosing wallpaper over any other type of wall treatment?

“Consider its durability, ease of cleaning and maintenance, room for repair, and resistance to damage. It may be inappropriate to use in high moisture areas such as bathrooms and kitchens. Budget is also something to consider. Installing wallpaper may cost higher than painting the wall, although it usually last longer than paint.”

Any tips on picking out the right wallpaper pattern or color?

“The size of the room determines the design of the wallpaper. Dark colors make a room cozier, while light colors with no patterns usually shows the seams of the wallpaper. Meanwhile, large patterns are interesting and give an illusion of a bigger room. Small patterns usually work well with small rooms.”

Can I do a DIY installation of wallpaper? Or is it always better to seek the help of a pro?

“It is always better to let professionals install the wallpaper. Wallpaper [is] usually considered if there are defects and blemishes on the wall, which you need to concert. The expert installers would know the best adhesive, the best way to concert the seams, and would prevent you from cutting the wrong way. Thus, less wastage, lower cost.”

How do I make sure my wallpaper won’t peel off and would still look new in years to come?

“Care and maintenance is necessary. You have to ask the wallpaper installer if it is advisable to wipe it off with clean water. Some wallpapers allow that, while others [don’t as they] are too sensitive. If the latter is the case, blotting off dirt with a clean rag is best. The lesser you scrub and use abrasive materials, the longer the lifespan of the wallpaper.”

Bonus Tip:

“Make sure that you buy an extra roll of wallpaper just in case a portion gets torn or needs repair.”
