RL Tips: Create a Glam Living Room
Sophisticated colors coupled with tufting and shine can make a difference
Did you know that tufting is a timeless furniture detail and has been around since the 1300s? It is where layers of fabric are pulled, folded, and strewn onto a furniture filler or foam with the use of buttons to create a tuft or a snug, buttoned up look. Classic tufted pieces look great in glam rooms, and nice examples are the Chesterfield sofa and the Barcelona Chair.

To make this work, a certain degree of sophistication is needed. First, garb your living area in luxurious textures – faux fur pillows, tufted upholstery, and soft leather.
To offset the softness, throw in a few metallic pieces like a silver candelabra or lamp. Deep hues like burgundy, aubergine, or forest green add more opulence, but temper the drama with a generous helping of neutral hues.
