After moving from a 25sqm studio to a 110sqm apartment with artist friends in 2006, interior designer Wilan Dayrit now lives in a 60sqm townhouse. After all the moving in and moving out, one thing remains the same—his signature color palette and sophisticated style.

110sqm Apartment Living Area in 2006

In the 110sqm, three-bedroom apartment, the full copper organza curtains anchored a warm ambiance in the living room. The space was dotted with Asian-inspired furniture swathed in beiges and browns. Even the rug, which was actually an uncut floor mat, sported neutral shades. Potted plants bring in organic freshness as well as accent color to the area.

Wilan’s current home—a three-storey, 60-sqm townhouse he shares with two friends from high school—is unmistakably his with its mostly neutral tones, generally streamlined furniture pieces, and even its decorative touches such as the potted plants on the coffee table. There is, however, that evident sense of layering and a more casual, candid way of sprucing up the space (there’s even a dress form in the living room!).

In the bedroom of his 110sqm apartment, Wilan created an illusion of a four-poster bed by installing floor-to-ceiling curtains on both sides of the bed. It was a stylish and functional touch, as it also segregated the sleeping space from the study area, where a table from his old place was placed. Bejeweled hanging Indian lamp, a clean-lined table lamp, and greens in a glazed ceramic pot accentuated his private space.

As with his previous bedrooms, Wilan chose an artwork for a headboard. This time, it’s an Ann Pamintuan wire art piece. The piece is mounted on a grass cloth wallpaper from Designer’s Guild.

The bed is outfitted with a double cushion, and is flanked by bedside tables from the interior designer’s old-time clients. At the foot of the bed is a Moroccan pouf.

After seven years, Wilan used the same leather-upholstered desk. For his new home, he paired the table with a Triboa Bay chair. The elegant black pieces and flourishing plants look interesting against the white wall.
