VIS-A-VASE

Materials: Clear vases, ribbons, Christmas lights

Those clear vases at home could use a bit of dressing up this season, too. Give them a break from flora and foliage and put bunched up Christmas lights inside. Wrap around ribbons and finish off with bows. This tabletop charmer will definitely add a warmer welcome to your holidays.

RL TIP: Have a safe holiday season-always unplug your Christmas lights when you go to sleep or leave home.

GREEN ALTERNATIVE

Materials: Pages from old books, patterned paper, cardboard paper and ribbons

Instead of buying a wreath for the holidays, decorate your front door with this easy-to-make paper wreath. Just glue together pieces of cone shaped paper into a round cardboard backing with the tip of the cones bunched to the center. Add thin ribbons for the tassel and viola! instant yuletide decor!

REINDEER GAMES

Materials: Christmas decor, excess wrapping paper

Got an idle decorative figure or ceramic animal? Turn it into a Christmas creature! It might take a whole day or weekend to make this project, but it's definitely worth it! Glue pieces of torn-up gift-wrapping paper on the piece until every inch is completely covered, for a papier-mache effect.

PLAYING WITH PLACEMATS

Materials: Plain placemats, fabric paint, paint brushes

If you prefer subtle yuletide details, these spruced up placemats are for you. Draw and cut out your favorite Christmas icon on a piece of cardboard and use this as pattern to draw on plain fabric tablemats. Paint the pattern in the palette of your choice. You can even enlist the help of bigger kids for a fun bonding activity.

BUNTING CRAZE

Materials: Colored paper, twine or lace

For a lively ambiance, hang color buntings on the wall. Create buntings with Christmas colors or icons for the yuletide feel. You can use paper flowers in the same color as the poinsettia. You can even mix and match your buntings with other knickknacks for a more festive feel.

BALLS OF BRIGHTS

Materials: Thick ribbons and colored paper or cartolina

Nothing says Merry Christmas more than these colorful balls of happy. Hang them from the ceiling using ribbons as a colorful mobile or place them on the table as a cheery centerpiece.

CANDY FAIR

Materials: Old jars, candies

Here's a quick, affordable way to spruce up your table: fill clear bottles with colorful candies. Make sure you have an extra stash of sweets on hand just in case the mischievous "dwarves" grab more than a handful.

PARADE OF PLATES

Materials: Christmas-themed tableware

Festive tableware need not be reserved for Noche Buena only! Display them while the holiday season is still on by mounting them on your wall or showing them off on a console table. Stick to a color scheme, play with different heights, and have a focal point to create a fabulous vignette.
