RL News: See the Winners of this Year's Nippon Paint Young Designer Awards

The works of the students showcase spaces that are people-oriented and environment-friendly

Last June, Nippon successfully launched "Design with Heart," the theme of the 2015 Nippon Paint Young Designer Award. The competition aims to be the catalyst that spurs young interior design and architecture students to ideate concepts that infuse convenience, practicality and purpose into our living, working and leisure spaces.

The winners were announced yesterday, October 21 at the Marco Polo Hotel in Ortigas. See the winning designs below:

From the hundreds of entries this year, only 10 finalists were chosen for each category. Architecture students were asked to present ideas that highlight a comprehensive community interactive space.

Jose Ricarte from the University of Santo Tomas with his Marikina Link project won the grand prize while Marko Adviento, also from the same university won the silver meda for his Sibol: Interactive Community Park project.

For the interior design category, Courtney Gatus won the silver medal with her innovative piece on an upcycled container van  transformed into a mobile dental clinic called "Project Eversmile."

Martha Tomas was declared as the grand prize winner for her eco-friendly Youth Leadership Foundation Office called "BioJet."

Grand prize winners will get P50,000 cash prize, a six-month internship at Lor Calma & Partners (for Interior Design) and Casas Architects (for Architecture), plus an all-expense paid overseas trip for a once-in-a-lifetime learning program and an exclusive workshop crafted especially for winners featuring internationally renowned speakers in the fields of architecture and interior design.
